The Townshend Studio at the University of West London is a purpose-built teaching and exhibition space housing Pete Townshend’s iconic collection of synthesizers. Designed to bring this extraordinary archive into active use, the studio provides a unique environment for hands-on learning, experimentation, and creative exploration.
The project also funds a full-time synth technician to support students in using the instruments, offering technical guidance and facilitating practical engagement across teaching, research, and performance. An artist-in-residence programme further extends the studio’s reach, inviting contemporary musicians and sound artists to develop new work in dialogue with the collection.
